Christmas Rogaine
We tried something a little different this year with the Christmas rogaine combined with some fun activities at NZCIS. We hit the stationary bikes for 30 minutes and wow there were some sweaty and very competitive folks smashing out the km's in there! A few groups also visited the green room for Connect Four, though that devolved into chaos :) We will have to rethink that for next year.
The rogaine itself was fun with all sorts of routes available with one intrepid team heading way off piste to a remote trig out of bounds ;) The results are here. Thanks everyone for taking part.
So that is it for the year. A great year for the club I think. See you all next year.

The Wild
Arrowtown
Philip Secker and Kevin Fink headed down to Arrowtown for the inaugural running of The Wild (Dec 9th). The weather didn't play its part so the marquee V5000 event was reduced from 86km, 5000m to 75km, 4000m. On the day however the weather was pretty good which made for some spectacular views across the mountains. The early part of the course was the best with craggy ridges and lake and mountain views, later on it was gorges and stream and river crossings followed by 4WD tracks. This is a pretty tough race with aid stations only every 20km or so. Kevin finished in a great time of 11:30:25 and was 9th in Masters. Philip also had a good race and finished in 13:00:10 and was 8th in Veterans.

Well done everyone – shame about the wind and the rain but clearly your harriers training had paid off for those conditions.

WAI Runfest
Hills above Upper Hutt
We had a hardy group of runners hit the Tararua's and Pakuratahi hills for some trail running goodness at Gareth's WAI Runfest. This is ideally the warmer sunnier version of the mid-winter wuu2k but mother nature wasn't up for that - it was a cool, wet and windy day out there.
Brian won the 50km ultra in 6:08, Hugh 6th in 6:57, Stephen 9th in 7:07 and Bethany 27th in 9:23. A particular nod to our captain Stephen - the only 60+ entrant in the ultra and nailing an amazing time.
Gary and Karl took on the 25km which had the trek up and down Mt Climie for the finale, ouchie! Karl placed 11th in 2:31 and Gary 23rd in 2:53.
Every TUH starter completed their distance and all had great runs. Awesome support by members at aid stations and others volunteering at marshall points. Such a good spirit in the club out there today.

River Run Backyard Ultra
Waipukurau
Josh, Kev and Scott headed to Hawkes Bay to have a crack at the backyard ultra. Josh has done a few now but Kev and Scott are both rookies in this format. The course was an out and back along the river and started out in good shape, but quickly degraded into quite a muddy trail that proved more challenging as the hours rolled by.
Josh completed 18 laps for 120km after seizing up badly - a little short of his 24 lap target but still a monster effort. Kev knocked out 15 laps, enough to hit the 100km mark before keeping food down became a big issue. And Scott managed 11 laps for 76km, well above his target and expectations, smashing his all-time distance PR.

Mangaroa Circuit
Lane Street
Our final event for the club racing calendar was the Mangaroa Circuit. A handicapped start with the club captain doing a fantastic job as usual assigning everyone's start times.
Heavy rain in the morning had some pondering gumboots for the race but the weather cleared and miraculously we ended up with a dry race. Well, aside from all the sweat...
New race record!! Madeline Keown smashed it for a new female race record. Madeline covered the 14km in 59:36. Well done!
The winners today were Terry Bedlington and Julia Fink. Terry bested his predicted time by 3 minutes, and Julia by a whopping 4:15. Congratulations you two, great pacing and well run.

So that wraps up our season. The ladder is also finished for the season, check it out.

Sanders & Gough Cross Country
Wainuiomata
This is a cross country event with a long history, contested by Trentham United Harriers, Hutt Valley Harriers, Wainuiomata and Masterton.
Wainuiomata hosted this year on a great course with a lot of variation - muddy grass, gravel paths, stream crossings, hills, it was fantastic.
Trentham United had an amazing afternoon results-wise winning every race except one. Within the races there were some great battles and I think everyone enjoyed themselves.
We're really proud of contributions from all the clubs for afternoon tea, this format worked well. Great weather and a good day out for all.

What a day for Trentham United Harriers! So many PB's and fantastic results!

In the half marathon Josh Campbell placed 2nd in Masters 40-49 and 13th overall with 1:12:50! Was a great battle, only 8 seconds behind the winner and a PB for Josh. A fantastic result for someone who is typically a trail specialist.

Novice & Presidents Race
Steve Plowman Trophy
Bob Clark Memorial Trophy for walkers
Clubrooms, Trentham Memorial Park
First club race of winter and it was a great day of racing! It's always a tough ask for the club captain to pick handicaps, but this year was fantastic. A lot of runners finishing in tight groups, all trying to chase down the person in front and hold off their chasers.

Vosseler Shield
Mt Victoria
The Vosseler Shield - the last race of Autumn and the first race on the inter-club calendar indeed proved to be a very tough race on Mt Victoria. Wet weather had rendered the terrain boggy and soft underfoot, a big test of strength on top of all the climbing everyone faced. Trentham United racers won three races - Madison Wos in the Womens U16, Hassan McCall in the Mens U18 and Josh Jordan in the Mens U20.

UVPSSA Cross Country Champs
Harcourt Park
The Upper Valley Primary Schools Cross Country champs took place at Harcourt Park. Trentham United had several members representing their schools, many of them qualified for the next level - the Regional Cross Country Champs which will be in Masterton in June. A fantastic achievement. The club also contributed rabbits and tail end charlies, all encouraging the competitors and looking great in club uniform. Well, looking great is debatable - the conditions were very very muddy and a few of our crew soaked up the fun atmosphere to muck in shall we say.
Stand out result goes to our year 6 girls who took all the medals. Well done Kiana, Ellie and Zoe - great racing!

Club Cross Country Champs
Clubrooms, Trentham Memorial Park
Fantastic weather greeted us for the club cross country champs. The course was great as usual - sections of long grass with heavy uneven ground, muddy trails and faster hard-packed stretches. A fabulous number turned out to run and lots of supporters too, with plenty surrounding the finish line to cheer everyone home. Good to see some of our newer members disrupting the 'normal' pecking order.
First place getters are listed below. U14 and older results are on webscorer. U12's are here, and U10's are here.

University Cross Country Relays & Chocolate Walk
QE Park Paekakariki
Trentham had another great turnout with 16 teams. We came away with 3 wins, once again all by the juniors - the U12 mixed team, the U14 boys team and the U16 girls team. Some great individual performances too with Stephen Mair running the fastest individual time in the M60+ category. The U16 girls team also had a crack in the U20 race and nabbed 5th! The Womens 35+ team had an awesome race with only 2 seconds separating 2nd, 3rd and 4th - our Trentham taking the 2nd place.
Our Trentham walkers fared well also. This event is not a mass start with line honours but rather the winner is the one who finishes closest to their estimated race time (no watches allowed!). Its all about knowing your capability over the distance and sticking to your pacing. Our own Jackie Wilson won the event with a finishing time only 16 seconds out from her estimate, pretty amazing over a 40 minute event!
Please note these results are still marked as preliminary (as at 10pm Monday evening).

Peter Tearle Walking Trophy
Island Bay
Three Trentham walkers headed over to Island Bay to contest the Peter Tearle Walking Trophy on the weekend. This is a handicapped race so always unpredictable. Our Trentham crew all placed well after the handicap and also came away with the fastest male and female times too.

1st Peter Dunn (Trentham) 0 handicap + 47:00 = 47:00
4th Jackie Wilson (Trentham) 15 min handicap + 34:38 = 49:38
6th Clive McGovern (Trentham) 19 min handicap + 31:32 = 50:32

Shaw Baton Cross Country Relays
Battle Hill
Trentham entered a record number of teams this year - 19 teams! Looks like the committee will need to order some more sets if this continues. We came away with 2 wins - the U14 boys team and the U16 girls team.
A fantastic day of racing and for our large number of first timers an awesome turn out. Certainly an intimidating atmosphere for a new runner, but you all got out there and gave it everything. I saw plenty of hot, red faces after crossing the line which turned to big smiles later with the sense of achievement.
