WUU2k
Wellington

Five of our trail runners headed into Wellington for the WUU2k. Whilst the weather was dicey out here in the Hutt, it was quite decent in the city, too bad previous rain had turned the course into a mudfest slog. It was a tough day out by all accounts.

In the 65km Ultra Stephen took 1st in the 60+ catagory by 3 minutes in 9:07, a tight race over such a long distance! 59th overall, well done Stephen! Philip came home in 9:54 and 25th in his category, with a big push to finish - just sneaking inside the 10 hour mark.

In the 45km trail marathon Tom had a cracking run finishing 15th in 4:58, and 10th in the open male category.

In the 21km "trail sprint" Madeline finished 1st female and 14th overall with a stellar time of 2:28. Sarah came home in 2:52, 10th female and 3rd in her category. Well done ladies, great runs!

Wellington Marathon
Sky Stadium

Another great outing for our Trentham United Harriers competitors at the Wellington Marathon. Fantastic to see so many of our athletes running this event, braving the chilly and early morning start.

The event doubled as the official Wellington Half Marathon champs, and NZ Half Marathon champs too. Rachel took out the Wellington Masters Women 35+ title! Sarah (2nd W35+), Edd (2nd M35+) and Anthony (3rd M35+) all featured on the podium too. At the national level, Edd took silver in the M40+ division missing gold by 14 seconds, David took silver in M65, Anthony took bronze in the M35+, and Rachel took bronze in W40. Trentham United took bronze in the Male teams event too! A very successful day all round, well done everyone!

And last but not least, Taya Hines broke the 8 year old girls mile record for the event! She now holds both the 7 y.o. and 8 y.o. records!

Greater Wellington Regional Primary and Intermediate School Cross Country
Harcourt Park, Upper Hutt

Trentham Harriers were well represented at this event, with 27 juniors competing. Thankfully the weather was perfect and conditions underfoot started well, if ending a little slippery for the later races. The event ran smoothly, and this was in part to several of our adult club members who stepped in last minute to marshall, start and organise teams - a huge thank you to those people.

Congratulations to all those who competed, and especially to those who qualified for the final Inter-Regional event, which will be held in Christchurch in September.

Rhys Mair Memorial Trail Champs, Clubrooms, Trentham Memorial Park
King & Queen of the Mountain, Clubrooms, Trentham Memorial Park

The Rhys Mair Memorial Trail Champs was held on a lovely sunny afternoon. Too bad we spent most of the time slugging it out in the Keith George bush! The course was well prepared by Shar and Josh. It is treacherous at the best of times so a big thank you for the hours of clearing and marking. It's not easy work and improves our safety and enjoyment.

Brian took line honours, with new member Isla McPherson coming in first for the females and a fantastic 7th overall. Age adjustment is then applied to feed into our ladder results.

Full results on webscorer or click here for the age adjusted times.

Walkers had King & Queen of the Mountain. Anne Dry is our Queen, and Peter Dunn our King. Congratulations! It was a close finish in the womens race too. Click here for the results.

We finally got to race on the weekend, with the Kapiti Coast turning on the weather for the University Cross Country Relay and Chocolate walk. Great turn out for TUH and some great results too.

Second year of the mixed teams format and once again was successful. Within that, our club captain Stephen generally opted to mix the abilty of most Trentham teams making for interesting competition within our club. And the results demonstrate how well he did. There was a cluster of Trentham teams in a row from 19th to 23rd, all within 2.5 minutes!

Our Juniors dominated their races, with gold in boys and girls U10 and the U14.

Saturday 26 - Sunday 27 April 2025
Faultline Ultra
Clubrooms, Trentham Memorial Park

Trentham Harriers experienced the highs and lows of ultra running this weekend.

Josh was the only one to toe the line for the miler but his current injuries surfaced a quarter way through so he pulled the pin at 57km.

Bethany, Hugh, Shar, Stephen and Tom all started the 100km distance. Bethany, Shar and Tom all completed the feat, knocking off their all-time longest runs. Shar ran 17:01 and placed 10th female, Bethany and Hugh ran 21:18, Tom ran 16:52. But heartbreak for Stephen - he made it 90km before stomach issues meant he could not continue. He was in a commanding lead in the 60+ age group sitting over 1.5 hours ahead of the next runner, and around 40th overall which was stunning.

Finally the Boyd brothers and Phil B teamed up and took 2nd place in the Teams Miler! Phil ran 34km in 3:13, Mark did 49km in 4:48, Jeremy and Tim closing out though I am unsure of their times.

Well done everyone. It takes a huge amount of training to even make the start. Then to put it all together on the day and push through the physical and mental barriers is a fantastic achievement.

Faultline Ultra results here.
